Some important questions answered

What kinds of people go for counselling or psychotherapy?

All kinds of people have therapy and find it really supportive. We only see adults (18 or over), and our clients come from many different backgrounds and for many different reasons.

What should I talk about when I meet a therapist?

Discussions can be about anything. Some people talk about past events while others focus on what's going on in their lives now. If you find it hard to open up at first, we are used to that and will help you.

Is counselling and psychotherapy confidential?

Discussions in therapy are confidential. There are a few rare legal exceptions, which your therapist will discuss with you at the outset.

Is counselling and psychotherapy non-judgemental?

Yes. Therapists are trained not to judge behaviour or individual life experiences, past or present, and respect each client's personal choices.

Why are there different types of therapy?

Different therapists focus on different aspects, and the most important factor in how effective therapy is, is the relationship between you and your therapist.

Is counselling painful?

Therapy can be uncomfortable depending on the issues and emotions that need addressing. We support clients through many painful emotions.

What are your fees?

Your initial consultation with a qualified therapist costs £65. Ongoing sessions with a trainee therapist are offered at a reduced fee of £54.

How quickly can I be seen by a counsellor or psychotherapist?

We can usually see new clients within two weeks of initial contact, with appointments available from morning until late evening and at weekends. Appointments last 50 minutes.

Can I stop at any time?

You may end counselling whenever you wish, just by letting your counsellor or psychotherapist know.

Can I arrange therapy for a family member or friend?

No, a person cannot be 'sent' for counselling. Your friend or family member will need to contact us directly.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please let us know as soon as possible. As your slot is held for you each week, missed sessions are always chargeable, though your therapist will try to find another time if you can't make your usual slot.

Can I have flexible appointments?

Clients are given a time slot that is held for them each week, though we aim to offer online appointments at other times for those who cannot make their scheduled session, such as shift workers.

Will therapy be lower quality because it is provided by a trainee?

Trainees may have less experience, but we carefully select only those we consider knowledgeable, mature, non-judgemental and empathic.

What if I'm not happy with my counsellor?

Use the first few sessions to see if the fit is good. If not, let us know and we will look at transferring you to a different therapist.

How long will I need to be in therapy for?

That depends on how much you want to address and how deep you want to go. We hold the appointment for you for as long as you want to come, and you decide when to end.

What happens when my trainee therapist qualifies?

You can continue therapy for as long as you want, until your therapist qualifies and leaves Face2Face London.

Can I have my sessions online?

Yes. Many clients choose to have some or all of their counselling sessions online. Just let us know when you book.
